About Me

Reverend Sheila Kappeler
I became a licensed reverend in the State of California through the Church of Natural Grace, a spiritual non-denominational foundation, after completing a two-year program in meditation and personal growth.
I attended my first same-sex union ceremony in 1996 in Columbus, Ohio at the end of gay pride weekend. Led by Reverend Rickie Marecek (with assistance from three others, including myself), more than 50 couples participated in this mass commitment ceremony.
It was the first time that I truly fathomed how moving and powerful a public acknowledgment of love can be. I had, of course, been to opposite-sex weddings before, but because ceremonies for straight couples are at the least legally recognized and at the most expected, those weddings (though very loving) did not summon the sense of awe and relief that I saw in the faces of the gay pride participants.
Since receiving my reverend’s license in 2002, I have performed many wedding and union ceremonies–both secular and religious–that served to honor and acknowledge the growing love between two people.
I officiate weddings for ALL couples! Love is love; marriage is marriage.
